Therapy for Teens

Teenagers don’t grow or struggle in isolation—their lives are shaped by family, friends, school, sports, culture, and community. Systemic therapy takes this wider view, understanding that challenges aren’t just “inside” the teen, but connected to the systems they’re part of.
In practice, this means therapy might include:
-
Exploring how family dynamics, peer relationships, or school pressures affect your teen’s well-being
-
Supporting healthier communication between teens and parents
-
Recognizing strengths within the family system, not just the struggles
-
Equipping teens with tools while also helping their support network grow alongside them
Systemic therapy creates a more complete picture of a teenager’s world, so growth and healing can take root in every part of their life—not just in the therapy room.
Why Teens Come to Therapy
Teens may reach out (or be encouraged to) for many reasons, including:
-
Stress, anxiety, or feeling “stuck”
-
Mood changes or low motivation
-
Friendship or relationship struggles
-
Family communication challenges
-
School or sports pressures
-
Questions around self-esteem or identity
How Therapy Can Help
Therapy provides a safe, judgment-free space for teens to:
-
Talk openly with someone who listens and understands
-
Build confidence, self-awareness, and coping strategies
-
Strengthen communication at home and with friends
-
Learn how to manage pressure and stress in healthy ways
-
Develop resilience they can carry into adulthood
My Approach
I work relationally—meaning I meet each teen where they are, with curiosity, respect, and care. Sessions aren’t about fixing or labeling, but about supporting growth and helping them feel less alone in what they’re facing. Whether through conversations about daily struggles, big questions about identity, or lessons drawn from sports and teamwork, therapy becomes a space for teens to discover who they are and who they’re becoming.
A Note to Parents...
Parents often wonder what therapy for their teen will look like. My role is to support your child while also keeping you connected to the process. I honor a teen’s privacy, but I also work collaboratively with families so that therapy strengthens—not replaces—the parent-teen relationship.
